Giovanni Sesia was born in 1955 in Magenta and graduated in painting at the Academy of Brera in Milan. For twenty years working as a painter in the context of the informal abstraction. Today, he works as a teacher of art history and he is known as a contemporary Italian artists who create their art works with the use of photography and painting in a continuous experiment. The turning point in the artistic way arrives in 1998, following the discovery of an entire archive of photographs from the early twentieth century, portraits of guests a nursing home for the mentally ill. Decides to enlarge these images and use them for his pictorial work. The images are processed with brown and traces of other colors. Finally, the comments are made with the written almost illegible handwriting. The works are worth an invitation to important events, such as in 2003, the exhibition Photo España curated by Enrica Viganò. In 2005 Sandro Parmiggiani wants to show "The face of madness." In 2006 Vittorio Sgarbi to call for the "evil"; In the same year he participated in the "Da Dada" curated by Achille Bonito Oliva. Meanwhile processes other cycles dedicated to some objects that he finds for the home, such as old sheets, chairs, jars that he uses to paint; and then landscapes, flowers, bikes. The latter subject attracts the attention of the direction of one of the manufacturers of the world's most famous motorcycle, Ducati, which commissioned a series of papers on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the foundation of the brand and, after the conquest of the championship World GP Casey Stoner, is responsible for implementing the official image of the event. Since that time the art of Giovanni Sesia become a national case, and his actions are in high demand both from private and public companies.
Giovanni Sesia è nato nel 1955 a Magenta, diplomato in pittura presso l’Accademia di Brera di Milano. Per vent’anni opera come pittore nell’ambito dell’astrazione informale. Oggi, lavora come insegnante di storia dell'arte e si situa tra gli artisti italiani contemporanei che creano le loro opere con l'uso del medium fotografico e della pittura in una continua sperimentazione. La svolta nell'ambito artistico avviene nel 1998, in seguito alla scoperta di un intero archivio di fotografie risalenti all’inizio del Novecento, ritratti di ospiti una casa di cura per malati mentali. Decide di ingrandire queste immagini e di utilizzarle per la sua opera pittorica. Le immagini vengono trattate con colore bruno e con rare tracce di altri colori. Infine vengono commentate con delle scritte realizzate con una grafia pressoché illeggibile. Queste opere gli valgono l’invito ad alcune manifestazioni molto importanti, come ad esempio nel 2003, alla rassegna Photo España curata da Enrica Viganò. Nel 2005 Sandro Parmiggiani lo vuole alla mostra “Il volto della follia“. Nel 2006 è Vittorio Sgarbi a chiamarlo per la mostra “Il male”; sempre nello stesso anno partecipa alla mostra “Da Dada” curata da Achille Bonito Oliva. Nel frattempo elabora altri cicli dedicati ad alcuni oggetti che lui trova per casa, come vecchie lenzuola, sedie, barattoli che lui utilizza per dipingere; e poi paesaggi, fiori, moto. Quest’ultimo soggetto attrae l’attenzione della direzione di una delle case produttrici di moto più famose del mondo, la Ducati, la quale gli commissiona una serie di lavori in occasione dell’ottantesimo anniversario della fondazione del marchio e, successivamente alla conquista del campionato mondiale GP di Casey Stoner, viene incaricato di realizzare l’immagine ufficiale dell’evento. Da quel momento l’arte di Giovanni Sesia diventa un caso nazionale, e i suoi interventi sono richiestissimi sia da parte delle aziende sia da parte di enti pubblici.
